Our client is seeking a Project Manager to work under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer. The Project Manager is responsible for the overall managing, coordinating, scheduling, and directing of the daily details of construction projects, as well as managing and overseeing Project Managers. Additionally, the Project Manager is responsible for overseeing the coordination of sub-contractors and the procurement of materials as directed. Acts as a liaison between company and federal contracting office personnel. The Project Manager works closely with the Chief Operating Officer, Project Managers, Estimators, and the Project Superintendent to complete the project ahead of schedule and within budget.

What Your Typical Workday Looks Like

  • Attends preconstruction and construction meetings as required.
  • Ensures and/or prepares construction progress schedules.
  • Investigates conditions at the jobsite; understands and evaluates site accessibility, site underground conditions, and any general and special conditions that would affect construction methods and costs.
  • Studies and understands the contract specifications, drawings, and associated scope of work requirements of each project before the project begins and during construction operations.
  • Ensures that submittals are submitted, received, corrected, approved and returned to the subcontractors in a timely manner.
  • Maintains organized documentation, specifications, estimates, submittals, and contract drawings.
  • Prepares letters, reports, and memorandums between company and the government, engineers, architects, and subcontractors.
  • Prepares Contract Progress Reports at various stages of the project and updates as necessary as the job progresses.
  • Acts as liaison and representative between company and governmental agencies and their personnel.
  • Inspects construction and installation progress to ensure conformance to established specifications.
  • Coordinates material deliveries and subcontract work in accordance with the contract schedule and monitors changes during the project in order to adjust deliveries and subcontractors work schedules as necessary.
  • In conjunction with the Assistant Project Manager and Project Superintendent prepares periodic percent completion data reports; prepares data for monthly invoices and submits in a timely manner to the Accounting Department.
  • Assists the Assistant Project Manager and Project Superintendent in maintaining good customer and subcontractors relations.
  • Monitors and ensures adherence to all company, local, state, and federal safety regulations at company job sites.
  • Presents self in a professional manner, provides open and honest communication, and demonstrates respect to co-workers and customers.
  • Prepares special reports and correspondence as requested by Chief Operating Officer.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

  • College Degree or related years of experience.
  • Valid California Drivers License with a clean driving record.
  • 10+ years experience in managing construction projects, ideally Federal or Public Works Projects
  • Experience selecting and managing vendors.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Knowledge of building systems, design, construction and related management strategies.
  • Skilled at summarizing and analyzing information for budgeting revenues and expenses.
  • Ability to establish priorities and following through on projects, paying close attention to detail with minimal supervision.
  • Able to work in a productive manner independently and with others in a team environment.
  • Excellent computer skills and proficient knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook, MS Project and other project management software programs.
  • Ability to read, interpret and understand plans, specifications, construction cost data and other contract documents to identify any errors, omissions, code violations and design inadequacies.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods and tools involved in construction.

Working Conditions

  • Depending upon the need of the position, work locations could be inside an office environment or directly on-site at a construction project location.
  • While performing the essential functions of this job, depending upon work location, the employee may frequently be exposed to: dust, noise, chemicals and solvents.
  • Exposure to power equipment.
  • Job site visits as directed by supervisor.
  • Regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear.
  • Frequently required to stand and walk.
  • Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
