Job Description:
A municipality in Ayer, MA is seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to join its Public Works Department. This role involves maintenance and repair of a fleet of vehicles and equipment, as well as general upkeep of the town garage. The ideal candidate is experienced, self-motivated, and capable of working independently under general supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform repairs and maintenance on diesel and gasoline-powered vehicles, including engine overhauls, brake systems, clutches, suspensions, and electrical systems.

• Maintain and operate a preventive maintenance program; record all repairs and services performed.

• Repair small power equipment such as mowers, compressors, and jackhammers.

• Order parts, manage inventory, and assist with developing vehicle specifications.

• Participate in snow removal and sanding operations during winter months; respond to emergency road operations when needed.

• Follow safety procedures, maintain a daily activity log, and update the department’s computerized maintenance system.
